This program is part of the SC Department of Health and Human Services and serves children, no matter their income level. It provides home and community-based services to children with special needs. The program provides intensive developmental instruction to parents and caregivers.
Sc early intervention services are designed to promote the developmental milestones of children, age birth to six. It also helps families connect with the community resources that can provide support. A service coordinator will help a family navigate the early intervention process. He or she will also help coordinate evaluations and provide information about the EI process.
Early Intervention services are based on curriculum-based assessment by trained professionals. They are provided in a child’s natural learning environment, allowing for frequent skill building opportunities. The results of the evaluation are used to determine if a child is eligible for services.
A child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) outlines the services the child needs and the frequency of the services. The plan is developed by all interested parties, including the child’s parents. The plan will list the services the child will need, including how long each will be offered, and how the family can work on the goals.
The Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is a legal document that describes early intervention services. It will include the goals the child is working towards, the frequency of training sessions, and other services the family needs.
