7 tools to drive traffic WITHOUT Google
Ping.fm

Ping.fm lets you submit updates to all of the major social networks out there. This is great for those feeder pages that exist to boost your page ranking and drive people to your main site. Generally, most of your effort should be put into your own page or site where the bulk of your quality content is. Starting a page on other networks allows you to get some traffic from alternative sources. The problem is the amount of work required in updating a large number of pages. Ping.fm reduces the work load and allows more time for original efforts.
Tubemogul

This site allows you to post a single video to a wide variety of video sharing sites. You first have to register with all of these sites and create accounts, but the effort is worth it because once done, every video you create can reach an incredibly wide audience. Tubemogul is part of a wave of applications that save you a huge amount of time in the struggle to generate traffic. Because video is so compelling and sites hosting video generally also contain a wide variety of social media tools, you can develop a great deal of trust and community presence as well.

As Twitter continues to grow at an astronomical rate, it’s reach also continues to grow and the potential here for developing traffic is massive. There are a wide number of angles for generating traffic, trust and valuable joint ventures to those who know how to harness Twitter’s power. Like other social networks, the spammers came first but what is interesting is how other more legitimate marketers are making more productive use of this format.
Youtube

Youtube is a search engine in it’s own right and you’d be remiss not to approach it as such. There is a different psychology to the kind of engagement that happens with Youtube videos. What’s great about Youtube is that is continues to evolve. It is now at the point where a single video is much like a mini webpage. Within the Youtube network, in a single glance at one’s videos, a person can see what interests there are. This is much faster than reading through a blog and can lead to faster trust because often times sites cover their real intent or lack of content with flashy graphics. Also, it is often difficult to navigate a blog. A standard wordpress install, for example has search, monthly archive and categories. Youtube has advanced search, related videos and videos by same user. Want to find useful information? Search Youtube first and go to the blogs of interesting videos. Most people who put together informative videos are likely to have equally useful text at their blog or website.
Social Marker

Everyone knows how useful social bookmarking sites can be for traffic generation. What becomes quickly apparent, however, is the amount of tedious form filling required to submit to all of these sites. Socialmarker.com offers a single button solution that allows you to submit a post to all of the social bookmark sites you are registered for. This is a huge time saver and the returns are fantastic.
hello.txt

This is another mass submission site that has become popular with Twtter users. Ping.fm has a wider range of services it can post to so your time is best sent there.
Which ones should you use?
If you are just starting out, you really need to spend more time on creating and tuning your content. By tuning content, I mean that you may have a specific niche in mind but you’ve got to be more specific about the angle your going to take on it. This means writing articles with a focus and a path and this takes time to develop. Becoming preoccupied with new web tools, gadgets and other shiny stuff will not aid your cause. Pick the biggest outlets, the ones that are proven to reward sucessful efforts. Twitter, Youtube and the social bookmarking sites are best as well as Stumbleupon because it has a very nice and quick to use firefox plugin. Later, when you’ve developed a formula for content creation and have a more focused niche that people respond well to, you can use the tools above to expand that audience while at the same time maintaining your content and services development schedule. Take my word for it, there are simply too many web applications and tools out there for you to research them all, I’ve tried. You’l only need 15 minutes a day on technorati to see what’s coming up and maybe another hour or two a week to see if anything else is going to blow up like Twitter.

Hi, I am the Marketing Director at HeySpread.
That is true, Tubemogul is a great service.
But you should also have a look at HeySpread for Professional Video Analytics and Video Distribution – http://heyspread.com. Far cheaper, with exclusive features such as YouClone (copy/paste your YouTube videos to any other platform automatically and in one shot), powerful and user-friendly interface, REST API for an easy and fast white label integration.
Thanks for pointing that out, looks like a powerful tool.

hello.txt was the only one I hadn’t heard of…they are ALL great services, and incredibly powerful. I tweeted this one.
http://posterous.com/ is another great service that will post on about 20 social networks, much like ping and hello.txt but you can do photos, video and more. There is even some geo-tagging functionality for better local results if people actually use google and their ilk ;D. Oh and you can do this by just sending an email to your Posterous account – can’t be much easier than that!
